Kid Time in Boise

We arrived in Boise on a Wednesday afternoon with Symi in a state of excitement due to the promise of playing with real live kids! Our destination was the home of Vicki, Nate, Alyssa and Cooper Witt who have moved to Boise from Perth. Symi and Alyssa played on the same t-ball team in Perth last year.

We parked our RV in Vicki and Nat's driveway and proceeded to spend a lovely few days catching up with them. Both Alyssa and Cooper already have their American accents down pat which was a surprise to Symi. They live in a great neighborhood which like Crabbe Place has many children to play with. To make Symi feel even more at home there was a front yard trampoline.

Luckily for Symi Cooper and Alyssa had a couple of days off school and apart from a couple of previous engagements were pretty well available for constant playing.

The second evening we all rode our bikes to downtown Boise for a meal out. Like a lot of the nicer towns we have been to there is a river running through the middle of the town and a culture of riding bikes around. We had a lovely meal - kids ate free that night which is always a plus.

Rob managed to get in some riding - starting the first afternoon we were there to get orientated to the massive trail network. Boise used to have the title of the best MTB city in the USA until Bend took over. The second day was a five hour epic taking in as much singletrack as possible. On Friday he rode with Nate for an after work blast as some classic trail. On Saturday it was a drive up to near the local ski field and into the trees for a ride out to stack rock.

Fiona was very happy to walk with Vicki around the neighborhood. We went for a long walk with the kids on thier bikes one day and Symi managed to get her first flat tire of the year - we were a long way from the house and even further from Rob who had the repair kit on his ride. Luckily Nat had pointed out a bike shop the day before and it turned out to be a 10 min walk away - crisis averted for only $5.

Our time with the Witt family was fantastic. They made us feel so welcome and it was great to catch up with people from home. Symi was beyond happy playing on with the kids in the street making cubby houses - her idea of heaven.

Boise has been added to our list of towns we could consider living in (not that we are about to).
