The Kettle Valley Rail Trail

My bike in the middle
Front seat at last
When we were in Kelowna we borrowed Hayley and Mark’s bright red ute and we drove up to the Kettle Valley Trail, it was good to sit in the front. It was easy to put the bikes on the ute because they sat in the back. My bike is the middle one between mum and dad’s bikes.
The road was extremely bumpy and very steep. We finally got to the top of the 8km dirt road. I had heard that there were two tunnels and lots of trestles and I was excited to go on them.

As you can see in the photo the trestles are huge, they even have twists and turns. They built the trestles for the trains to get over the valleys without going up and down. It is very flat on the trail so there is not a lot of peddling, that’s why I liked it. The trail is flat because trains can’t go up and down steep hills, they need a gentle slope. We went over 18 trestles and through two tunnels.

The tunnels are really short but gloomy and dark. They are fun to make silly noses in. I liked the first tunnel best because it was a little longer.
The little platform that I am on in the photo was a place to store water in case of a fire since the trestles are made of wood. We saw a photo of a trestle on fire which looked like an inferno.

When we finished the trail ride dad put his bike in the back but we kept riding all the way down the hill. On the 8 km dirt road it was 95% downhill that was why mum and I decided to ride down. It was a long and bumpy ride but fun!!!!!! Since it was hot we decided to go for a swim at the beach (the lake)it was cool and a perfect end to the day.
